When installing MySQL 5.7 using windows installer I was able to change default data location from "C:\ProgramData" to some other partition.

The problem is that "C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.7\Uploads" folder is still here. Did I forget to set it during installation or its supposed to be in "C:\ProgramData" by default?

Cannot install server 5.7.14 Windows 10 (6 replies)

I have been trying to install Server v 5.7.14 on 64-bit Windows 10 using the .msi installer.

It repeatedly fails at the second step of the configuration. When I click the log tab it shows:

"Beginning configuration step: Writing configuration file
Invalid server template"

I have tried both the 32-bit & 64-bit versions of the server.

Does the 'template' refer to the default .ini file supplied with the download?

Anybody any ideas on how to resolve this?

MySQL Environment Path Variable Not Working (1 reply)

Hello ladies & gents,

MySQL Environment Path Variable Not Working. I have manually set it to "‪C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.7\bin" and tried running mysql server using all these commands: "mysqld","mysqld.exe","mysql", I have tried many, I have ran Windows CMD ad Admin, and also have set my environment variable to this twice, and restarted my PC after setting the environment variable, but every time I try running the above commands in Windows CMD I receive the error message "'mysqld' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.". I have no idea what else to do, I have googled many times and found no answer to this. :( I'd really appreciate if someone can help me overcome this issue. Thanks :)

Hi,

I'd like to perform the upgrade of Mysql Community Server 5.6.34 to 5.6.35 via msi installer mysql-installer-community-5.6.35.0.msi (the bigger one). Actualy I can't see 5.7.35 as an available upgrade option.

Is there any other possibility how to perform this upgrade? Please note the machine in which Mysql is installed on has no internet connection.

Thank you for any help.

MySQL client // pager option workarounds PowerShell / encoding (no replies)

On Windows, the 'pager' option doesn't work, but I would love to use it for "less", "grep", etc.

I have been playing around with PowerShell as a workaround but run into charset issues - MySQL uses UTF-8 and PowerShell uses UTF-16.

Charset conversions should solve the issue but I have no experience with that. Any suggestions?

Upgrade MySQL on Windows with CLI (no replies)

I tried to upgrade MySQL 5.7.13 to the latest version 5.7.17 on a Windows PC. I need to do this on hundreds of machines in our network. I'm looking for any possibility to do this from the CLI.

I tried to do the following (according to documentation):

MySQLInstallerConsole community update
MySQLInstallerConsole community upgrade *

but I have answer

Upgrades one or more products on your system.
Options: * - Upgrade all products to the latest. [upgrade1], [upgrade2]. .. - Perform the selected upgrades.
Switches: -silent - No confirmation dangerous
Each upgrade pattern is of the form of [existing]->[new]. Substring matches are used. A '!' character for the new version means to use the latest available.
Example: upgrade * - Upgrade all products to the latest available upgrade work:! - Upgrade MySQL Workbench to the latest available upgrade work:6.0.8 - Upgrade MySQL Workbench to the 6.0.8 if available

If I run GUI installer I see updates available for MySQL server.

Then I tried to run

MySQLInstallerConsole community upgrade server:!

and got answer

Unable to find any products that match server:

What must I do to be able to upgrade MySQL from CLI?

Is there a way around that?

I did a full install it did create the service, but the service would not start so I went to the bin folder and clicked on the exe file and got the message that it was the wrong version.

After unstalling it and reinstalling it the same error occurred.

If I do a fresh install will it help to copy the content of the right zip file version in to the folder?

win10 64 bit. Can't Find Mysql (no replies)

I can't find mysql on my win10 installation.

trying to get iis and php up and running and i'm nearly there but just can't log in to phpmyadmin - it won't accept my password for root though it fits php.config.inc or whatever it is.

so that's all mysql related isn't it? so i thought to look at it and i can't find it.

this is a new installation of win10 and i know i installed mysql. I would have got a message somewhere in the course of the php, etc., install anyway if it wasn't there?

Installation with Python (no replies)

Has any-one tried to install mysql-installer-community-5.7.17.0.msi recently ?

I am getting a message which says that Python 3.4 is not installed - which is correct. However, the Python web site is telling me that Python 3.4 has now entered "security fixes only" mode, and I can only download Python 3.6, which mysql doesn't detect.

Suggestions on a way forward would be welcome, please.

Thank you

We are trying to upgrade from Mysql Server 5.6.34 to 5.6.35 on a Windows 2012 Server.
After launching MySQL installer (1.4), whilst still on the black launch screen displaying the message "Finding all installed packages" we then get an error dialogue box which says "Internal error. (Error retrieving product version) The installer will now close."
Have tried downloading the full (non-web) version of the installer and running as administrator but still get the same error.
Can't find anyone else who has posted with his error.
Is anyone able to help ??

Thanks in advance,
Pete

I am trying to do my first install of MySQL. The platform is Windows 10. I have the Windows installer for 5.7.17.0. I start the installer and get the following error: "An error was encountered loading the product catalog." The installer then terminates. What causes this problem? What do I do to get MySQL installed?

How do you get this MySQL thing to work with PHP (2 replies)

I have done SQL before (Oracle SQL and MySQL) and, after having someone help me set it up, was able to get PHP with HeidiSQL. However, I no longer know how to set it up as it's been some time and the installations were lost when the hard drive crashed.

I tried to look on the W3 school site and hoped it would tell me where to go, and it send me to this site (that had a lot of not-free stuff despite it saying it would take me to a place where I could get something that would work for free). I did find a free thing called MySQL Installer and got part of it set up. (I don't think I have the database thing set up yet. I don't have passwords for it.)

I just have PHP enabled somehow only through the ineptpub/wwwroot folder. (And it's read only, meaning I always have to copy stuff to there and can't code there directly.) I have tried the Apache stuff, but it never seemed to quite work. (I got the Apache stuff working, but never could get it to work with the PHP stuff.)

I am not really familiar with this new MySQL Installer thing and am wondering how I can connect to it from a PHP file. Again, I have used PHP code that was able to access a database from HeidiSQL, so coding is not the problem.

The issue is getting all these things to find each other.

"-showsettings" command line option not working (no replies)

I'm looking for a list of all available options using the "-showsettings" flag as documented here:
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/MySQLInstallerConsole.html

However, no matter what I use as "product name", the results always displays "Unable to find any products that match server" (see example output below)

I'm ultimately looking to silently install mysql via a script either via msiexec or with "MySQLInstallerConsole" or even the xMySQL powershell DSC (https://github.com/PowerShell/xMySql).

Any help with getting the entire list of options would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Current Root Password? (no replies)

Windowe 10. I had an older version of MySQL. I uninstalled it using Programs and Features. Then I ran the current Windows Installer. It came to a page requesting "Current Root Password". Does this refer to the root password for the uninstalled version? I tried what I had in my notes, but install fails.

Log says "Authentication to host 'localhost'for user 'root' using method mysql_native_password failed with message: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

This is my personal computer. All I want is a completely fresh current MySQL install. What can I do to circumvent this error?

MySQL Installer (Windows) 5.6 upgrade to 5.7 (no replies)

Folks,

Been using MySql 5.x on windows for some time, mainly for Wordpress / PHP. Occasionally the MySQL installer wouldn't previously find updates, but up until now I've manually been able to either force it or use one of the full installer downloads from dev.mysql.com to upgrade.

Currently I'm on the 5.6 version track, at 5.6.35 on MySQL (everything else tool-wise appears to be current along with that version), and I'm wondering why I can't seem to force an in-place upgrade to 5.7.x. Neither the MySQL installer (1.14.18.0) not the current downloadable packages (e.g. the 5.7.17.0.msi installers available as of this writing) appear to work; they keep telling me 'no updates are available.

I'm guessing I need to uninstall the windows MySQL service and then try to install using the MSI, but I'd prefer to know my data / configuration will remain if I do that...
