Hi, I have a Windows 2012 R2 server installation and some 3rd party software on it which uses MySQL database engine. I`m trying to install hotfixes for that software and it requires deletion of the mysqld.exe file and replacing it with the new one. All of the mentioned already automated by the developer and done by scripts. Every time I run upgrade script it fails with the same error that mysqld.exe cannot be deleted due to Eventlog using it. I cannot delete it manually as well. If I disable Eventlog service I can successfully go through the hotfix installation process (or delete mysqld.exe file), but anyway, could someone explain how and why Eventlog can keep a lock on file even MySQL services were stopped? I have already checked all the solutions with different process explorers and file-lock search tools, but it didn`t turn me back any result, the file deletion is only possible with disabled Eventlog service. I also aware that MySQL app exists in the Windows registry under the Application section of EventViewer, however, I didn`t find any information why it can keep a lock on something.

After running the set up all I see is a table of product, version, architecture and on the right side there are options to add, modify, upgrade and delete.

Where do I go from here?

I downloaded the zip archive mysql-8.0.12-winx64 and followed the instructions to install on Server Core (headless). But nothing works and there are no error messages. Even when I type mysql -version, there is a pause and then back to a prompt. Nothing displayed. Same with mysqld --intialize.

I added the .Net features to the server core and tried it again but still no install, nothing.

I am Ronda from USA. Please help me to share all the information and i will do the same for getting better knowledge.

I've attempted to install 8.0.11 several times. As I run thru the installer, I see that the MySQL80 service is running, 2 mysqld processes are running, port 3306 is active and being listened to on address 0.0.0.0 by one of the mysqld processes. And a firewall rule has been added to allow port 3306.
But the validation connection to the server fails.
If I try to telnet to port 3306 that also fails.

Appreciate any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong.

After importing all databases, including system (mysqldump was --all-databases) all the user accounts report:

"Account [accountname] does not exist but it still has privileges defined for the following objects: [databasename]"

I dont mind re-creating all accounts, but i can't! when trying to create or even change the "root" account i get:

I am trying to reinstall MySQL 8 on a Windows 10 machine. MySQL 8 was previously installed on this machine and worked just fine. A few days ago, the entire modules directory in the Apache installation disappeared. At that point, I uninstalled Apache and MySQL and did a thorough inspection for viruses and other malware. The results for malware were negative.

I then reinstalled Apache which successfully installed. When I attempted to install MySQL 8, however, the installer simply died very early in the installation, when a little dialog box says that it's configuring MySQL for installation. The Windows Event Log identified an Event ID 1000 associated with the MySQL installer failure. At that point, I ran SFC and DISM, both of which found no corrupt files.

I created an entirely new user profile on this machine and attempted the installation from that profile. The results were identical to what I experienced with the original profile.

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the entire .NET Framework and ran a complete CCleaner Registry scan and did a full repair of all issues found. I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware installed and disabled it throughout all the issue resolution steps. After all of these efforts, the MySQL installer (I tried both the Web and the Community installers, both of which behaved the same way) continued to fail early in the installlation routine at the point where it said that it was configuring MySQL for installation. The only thing that changed was that the Event ID changed from 1000 to 1001 CLR20r3. The entire Event Viewer contents follows:

So, what I did is uninstall MYSQL5.7 and installed a new version - MYSQL 8.

The problem is that it is using msi.installer and the older configuration files still stays put and so the new version will be making use of this old file.

I'd like to seek help how to get rid of the old configuration file in windows 10 so that I can use MYSQL 8 in a clean slate.

I had a working 5.6.38 MySQL Community Server database installed on a windows Server 2016 standard OS.

It was working OK till the RDS service was installed. the RDS is used to manage licenses so more than 2 user can login using RDP.

After the RDS installation I cannot connect using ODBC to the localhost but I can connect to the 127.0.0.1. With the HeidiSQL client I get the same error:

Unknown MySQL server host 'localhost' (0)


If I use the native mysql client it works with both localhost and 127.0.0.1

telneting to the localhost or 127.0.0.1 on port 3306 is ok. the mysql daemon is listening on both.

Any Idea what is happening?

Hi, I've been having trouble with setting up MySQL Server and MySQL Workbench so I tried to uninstall them through the MySQL Community Installer, it uninstalled the workbench with no issue but when it got to 50% of removing the SQL Server it fails, every single time, and no matter what I do I can't uninstall the server, I tried the windows uninstaller and it the software is still listed there, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the community installer but I can't reconfigure the entire installation from scratch because the server is still installed according to it. If I try to modify the MySQL server and uninstall it from there it just tells me that the wizard ended prematurely. I tried deleting any and all installation files from MySQL manually, including the program data file, then try to uninstall the server.
It's still there, I cannot uninstall this no matter what I try, I'm completely lost and no amount of googling has helped me.

1.) We are currently running 5.1 so I downloaded the oldest version available for download. Will said download contain the latest security patches for said version or is that a separate download?
2.) Now that Oracle appears to own MySQL do I need to pay for support to run MySQL and\or download patches?

I am willing to report a bug, but thought I would ask around first here to see if I am missing something with MySQL server and non-default datadir settings.

I am seeing weird issues with MySQL installer and wondering if others have found this as an issue in version 8.0 or even previous versions.

Issue #1: With a mounted drive in Windows (Volume mounted directly into C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\data) the MySQL Installer will fail to upgrade the server with the JIT error, "Access Denied to C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\data\System Volume Information"

By providing the correct permissions (via Microsoft Article) to allow access to the System Volume Information folder the installer exhibits weird behavior. During the installation the Volume is unmounted and the previously empty directory is installed to as if the server had never been run before, creating a new mysql and information_schema and forcing the user to reconfigure the server including setting the new root password and trying to get the user to create a new MySQL80 service because one already exists.

Issue #2: If the DataDir is set to E:\Data in the my.ini, again the MySQL Installer does not use the my.ini that is currently configured to have a datadir of E:\Data, and creates a new database Schema in C:\ProgramData\MySQL Server 8.0\data and has the user reconfigure the server and tries to create a new service.

Question 1: Has anyone noticed that all? Setting the Data Directory to a mounted drive on windows may be odd, but seeing the behavior in Issue #2 with a separate volume and separate Drive Path seems really irregular.

Question 2: Is there a setting for the MySQL installer to honor the my.ini and configured datadir within that location?

Workarounds:
1. In-place upgrade
2. Cancel the installer at the point of reconfiguration and run the mysql_upgrade manually.

I am currently running MySQL 5.6.38 on a Windows production database server. I was recently informed about a security vulnerability that applies to all builds until the release of 5.6.42. I went to apply the patch today, and MySQL Installer only shows 5.6.41 to be available for install. I spun up a test VM, installed 5.6.38, and MySQL Installer shows up to 5.6.41 available on it as well. I updated the test VM by unzipping the 5.6.42 zip file as the instructions suggest, and starting the service and opening MySQL 5.6 Command Line Client confirms the correct version is in place. Unfortunately, MySQL Installer then does not pick up the correctly installed version of 5.6.42 (rather, it still shows 5.6.38).

Here are my questions:

1) When will the 5.6.42 update be made available through MySQL Installer?

2) Since my security team is pushing for me to install this update quickly, if it will not be available by this weekend, will unzipping the 5.6.42 update on top of my current installation break MySQL Installer in the future?

I have the MySQL 8.013 server running nicely and am developing an application on it. Now I need to set up a work station for testing in multiuser environment. Having a 'flat file' background, I don't have a good concept of the client setup. I guess my main questions are

1. How does one install it?
2. How does one use it?

I need as much detail as possible on these topics. I've tried to install it using the same installer that I used for installing Server, but no luck. I've spent several days pouring over the googled topics and the MySQL documentation with little good clear information.

It seems to me that the product "MySQL Server" is not installed at all.
It is missing from the products list of the installation, and could not be found anywere.

After successfully installation of mysql, I am getting Unsupported operating system when I tried to open work bench (start-> mysql-> mysql workbench 8.0).

When I try to open command line interface, its asking me for root user password. When i entered correct one it's disappeared.

Please help me how out from this 2 problems.

I have downloaded MySQL installer but I can't seem to be able to install the actual "MySQL Server".

When I start the installation process I get the normal window allowing me to choose the type. i.e. Server only, Developer, Custom etc.

However, when I click Custom, for example, to allow me to choose what products I need, "MySQL Servers" is missing on the "Available Products" tab.

In other words, I cannot install it as it not available. The only available products are: "Applications", "Connectors", "Documentation" etc.

I have tried all sorts of approaches but I can't just manage to install the server.

My PC runs 32-bit windows on a x64 based processor.

When I directly install "mysql-8.0.12-winx64.msi" it says: "this installation package is not supported by this processor type"

I am out of lack here. Could someone be kind enough to help me out please?

I've upgraded mysql to 5.6 (from 5.5)

I have a database called confluence which I need to upgrade
here's the location of my datadir is in my.ini

datadir="C:/MySQLdata/Data/"

however when I check the value of @@DATADIR in mysql with

select @@DATADIR;

I get something entirely different:-

C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\DATA\

so mysql is looking in the wrong place

What's the syntax for updating @@DATADIR via SQL ??
(I tried) is it back slashes or forward slashes? double or single?

Any ideas why Mysql 5.6 isn't using the datadir value in the my.ini file ?

With other versions of MySQL my.ini is found and used OK. (eg with v5.1 & v5.5)
